The Team

We provide 24 hour Registered Nurse (RN) care. All qualified nurses at Highfield are registered with the NMC (Nursing and Midwifery Council) and are accountable to maintain standards set down by them. Our RN's participate in in-house training, training provided by outside agencies and recognised courses enabling them to meet their commitment to the care of our residents. They also frequently fulfil requirements to update their knowledge and clinical skills as stipulated by the NMC.

All members of staff undertake a comprehensive programme of induction training, including the Common Induction Standard. This then extends to an individual plan for job specific training, meeting minimum National Training Organisation Standards, in line with their responsibilities and abilities.

The Matron-Manager is responsible for all nursing and day-to-day management matters. Any administrative issues are dealt with by the Administrator. Either of them will be pleased to answer any questions you may have regarding the Home.

Nursing Auxiliaries and other members of staff also partake in training courses on various subjects and issues on a continual rolling basis. Many have obtained NVQ Levels II and III in Care and are continually striving to provide a high standard of care in our Home. We also carry out our own in-house training following a plan written by the Scio Healthcare Training Manager. The following is a selection of the subjects covered including all statutory requirements: Principles of Care, Moving & Handling, Basic First Aid, Food Hygiene, Health & Safety, Fire Safety, Incontinence Management, to name but a few.

As training is an ongoing programme, some of the nursing auxiliaries will be incorporating supervised training whilst performing their normal duties, this is because it is part of the assessment process for NVQ qualification. Staff will always ask permission before doing so.

Our Catering Manager and Chefs run the kitchen and are responsible for all food and drink preparation. They prepare the menus and ensure that meals are served to individual needs and requirements for example religious, medical, physical or cultural needs. Additionally much thought has gone into the nutritional values of all the food that is served.

Our Catering Assistants help with the preparation of ingredients and general cleaning of the kitchen area.

The Housekeeping team ensures that bedrooms, all communal areas and staff areas throughout Highfield are thoroughly cleaned and kept tidy for both comfort and safety. They will ensure that there is always sufficient clean linen available and help maintain a pleasant environment for each resident.

The laundry staff will collect, launder and return clothing and bed linen to individual rooms. They may also carry out minor repairs.

Highfield is a large building and requires ongoing maintenance and decoration to keep it running smoothly. Our shared group maintenance team, carry out repairs - anything from replacing light bulbs to refitting a bathroom suite as well as decorating both inside and outside the Home.

The gardens around the Home also keep them busy throughout the year. They attend to all the flowerbeds and keep the gardens tidy, ensuring a pleasant place for residents to walk or sit in.
