Springfield was originally built in 1911 as the Scio Children's Hospital and several of our visitors remember coming here in their childhood. The buildings have undergone several refurbishments and extensions since then, and all ground floor rooms have doors that open out onto patio areas and the gardens. It is conveniently situated for visitors using public transport and has a car park for those who visit by car. The passenger ferry terminal from Portsmouth is only a distance of 12 miles away in Ryde, whilst the car ferry terminal at Fishbourne is approximately 14 miles away.
The Home sits in its own grounds where in the summer the residents can sit and enjoy the sunshine in the garden or in one of the many patio areas.
Springfield is a comprehensively equipped Nursing Home which extends a warm and friendly welcome to all its clients and their families. Independence is encouraged but help is available whenever required. Everyone has the freedom of choice in their day to day living, including going to go to bed and getting up when they wish, also to choose what they would like to eat and do. The care provided depends on the individual needs and requirements of each person.
Springfield provides 24 hour Nursing Care for 42 people in single rooms, all but two of which have en suite facilities, with shower. Two baths are available with special equipment to assist those who can no longer manage to use a conventional one. A variety of specialist hoists are available to be used by our trained staff. All rooms have a Nurse Call System facility.
Fees are based upon the assessed needs of the individual Client. These are advised to you before your entry to the home and included on your contract of admission. They are due monthly in advance, payable by standing order mandate on the 26th of the preceding month.
Fees include cost of all care with accommodation, for example: nursing care, food and drink, heating and lighting, laundry (except dry cleaning), diversional therapy and all necessary care as would normally be required by a client.
Other fees that may be incurred are for the cost of newspapers, phone calls, hairdresser, transport, chiropodist, and medication or treatment by a Dentist, Physiotherapist or Optician and similar external professionals. These fees will be invoiced to you monthly in arrears.
All clients are entitled to some form of financial help. This may take the form of local authority assistance with the funding of, or contribution to the cost of care, or assistance from the NHS by way of contribution to the cost of registered nursing care. The levels of benefits, contributions and fees will differ depending on each client's financial circumstances and care needs. Each client will, however, receive the standard of care appropriate to their identified needs.
Fees are reviewed annually (normally in April), however we reserve the right to amend fees more often on giving one month's written notice to you. This may occur in the event of an increase in our overheads or operating costs or as a result of statutory provisions coming into force after April annually. These care fee increases will be divided equally between the total number of beds within the home.
Fees will also be appropriately adjusted in the event of a change in care levels, accommodation or dependency, and you will be charged the
appropriate fee with effect from the date of the change after being given one month's written notice.

At Springfield our Intermediate Care unit of 10 beds is funded as part of the NHS, with the aim of providing short term intensive care and support. Our staff work in full partnership with NHS nursing, medical and therapy practitioners and Local Authority Care managers, to meet the individual needs of patients. The aim is to ensure seamless care, between hospital and home and we therefore work closely with hospital services and the Primary Care teams of GP's and District Nurses.
